About Perfectly Human Counselling

At Perfectly Human Counselling we believe in the power of person-centred integrative counselling to support personal growth and healing. Whilst our foundation is person-centred therapy and this is how we work practically in the room with our clients, we draw on insights from Psychodynamic Theory, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis to inform our work. This integrative approach allows us to view our clients through multiple lenses, enhancing our ability to support their unique journey.

So, what does this look like in practice?

Counselling sessions are approximately 50 minutes once a week and are on an open-ended basis; with length varying from client to client depending on the nature of the work and the issues we are working with. During each session, it will just be you and your therapist in the room – whether that be in-person or virtual. We use a non-directive approach, working at your pace, and allowing you to lead the conversation. We explore your thoughts and emotions freely, whilst working together to establish themes in history, patterns of behaviour, and whatever else may emerge.

Person-centred therapy is a humanistic approach that places the individual at the centre of the therapeutic process. By creating a supportive environment, offering unconditional positive regard, and practising empathy, this approach aims to empower clients to find their own solutions and to cultivate personal growth and healing. Whilst our practice appears purely person-centred, we are informed by various theories to better understand and support our clients in their journey.

Session Fees

  • Private Clients: The fee for a standard counselling session is £75 per session.
  • Initial Assessment: The cost for the initial assessment session is £20. This assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation to understand your unique issues, expectations, background, and emotional and mental wellbeing. If we decide to work together going forward, this amount will be deducted from the cost of your first formal counselling session.
  • Corporate Clients: Rates for corporate clients are slightly higher and depend on the specific nature of the request. If you’d like more details, please get in touch to discuss tailored pricing.
  • Concessionary Rates: I reserve a limited number of sessions each week for counselling students and individuals who require support but may not be able to afford the full rate. If this applies to you, please contact me for further information.

Face-to-Face

Our counselling space is based in the beautiful parish of St. Pierre du Bois. We are out in the countryside which provides a perfect rural escape from the busy-ness of everyday life. A space where you can take some dedicated time-out to concentrate on you and your wellbeing, with the support of a qualified counsellor. There is dedicated parking on-site.

Online

If virtual counselling is your preference and/or you do not live in Guernsey, we offer online counselling sessions on video via Zoom and other platforms.

Our Core Values

We believe everybody has their story and anyone can benefit from therapy.

  • We believe you are the expert in your life, and we are here to provide you with the support needed in discovering your true self.
  • We maintain authenticity and transparency in our therapeutic relationships. There are no hidden agendas, no biases, and no judgments from us.
  • We believe in the value and power of authenticity and transparency in providing you with a safe, non-judgmental space in which you can feel valued and understood to ultimately reach your full potential.
  • We believe the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is essential for positive therapeutic outcomes.

"Unwittingly, we write the story of our future from narratives based on the past... Mindful awareness can bring into consciousness those hidden, past-based perspectives so that they no longer frame our worldview."

- Gabor Maté
